The Museum of Political History of Which No One Speaks (In Memory of Stas Markelov and Nastya Baburova)

On January 19, we opened a street-art exhibition on the outer wall of the State Museum of Political History (the former Kschenssinska mansion) in Saint Petersburg. The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of our friends the civil rights lawyer Stanislav Markelov and the journalist Anastasia Baburova.

On January 19, 2010, a year to the day from the murders of Stanislav Markelov and Anastasia Baburova, we, the organizers of an antifascist march, call on you to join our campaign against neo-Nazi terrorism.

The word fascism has been utterly devalued today. It is hard to find a political movement that avoids branding its opponents as “fascists.” But there are also meaningful interpretations of this term. Many of them have a direct bearing on what is taking place in contemporary Russia.

16th November evening at around 9:00 p.m., 26-year-old Ivan Khutorskoi was shot and killed in the stairwell of his apartment building (Khabarovskaya, 2) in Moscow. While the greater public might not know his name, this is a truly enormous loss for many Russian antifascists and leftist activists. Ivan held leftist views and periodically participated in various social protest actions. First and foremost, however, he was known as one of the informal leaders of the Moscow antifascist movement. It is obvious to most of Ivan’s friends that Russian Nazis committed the murder.

In Izhevsk, officers of Centre of Counteraction Against Extremism (CPE, new Russian political police, formed in January of 2009) are falsifying a case against members of Autonomous Action. According to Galina Shutova, who is yet a witness in the case, state wants to make her a terrorist: “Officer of CPE Artyom Ahmetzyanov said to me directly, that he wants to do anything to lock me down”.

In Izhevsk, Department of Counteraction Against Extremism (CPE, formerly
Administration on Fight with Organised Crime UBOP) once againt framed up
a criminal case against anti-fascist movement.

This is just the latest episode in a chain of repressions against
anti-fascists, which started i 2008 - during a year more than 80 people
have been illegally detained for various reasons, five criminal cases
have been opened, but in four charges cases were closed as "crime had
not taken place".

8th of May 2009 Kuybyshevskiy district court sentenced Aleksey Bychin to 5 years in prison, according to statue 111 part 3 of the Russian criminal codex (conscious causing of grievous bodily harm to two or more persons).

Next Tuesday, the 21th of April 2009, a verdict will be announced in the case of Moscow anti-fascist Alexei Olesinov.

18th of November an action against repression of anti-fascistswill take place at Metro Station "Novokucnetskaya" in Moscow. Action will begin 16:00, and will demand freedom for anti-fascist prisoner Aleksey Olesinov. Aleksey is imprisoned for more than 10 days already, and has been held incommunicado by authorities, his lawyer Stanislav Markelov has still not been allowed to meet with him. Health condition and
conditions in which he is kept are not known to his relatives and friends. Friends of Olesinov are certain, that he is persecuted due to participation to anti-fascist activities.

In the morning on October, 10th, 2008, Filatov «Fedjay» Feodor Vasilevich has died in hospital from plural knife wounds. He was only 27 years old.

In 7:30 a.m. he came out from entrance of the house. He was attacked by four unknown persons, armed with knives. There is no doubt that these people planned this attack. As a result, having received numerous knives’s injuries, Feodor Filatov has been taken to hospital on the ambulance. Feodor has died in hospital, without coming to his senses.

16th of September is exactly 2 months since 22-years old anti-fascist
was arrested in St.-Petersburg. He is charged with intended infliction
of serious bodily harm (article 111, point 1 of Russian criminal
code). On the 18th of July the court decided to keep him in jail
before the trial.

The night 12-12 June Alexej was walking the city streets with friends.
His friend and he was a bit behind the whole group when they faced two
nazis saluting 'sieg heil!'. Alexej understood they wanted to attack

On the 16th of July 22 year old antifascist Aleksei Bychin was arrested in St. Petersburg. He is facing charges according to statute 111, part 1 of Russian criminal codex (consciously causing grievous bodily harm). 18th of July he was put to remand prison.

On the 8th of May 2008 Leninskiy district court sentenced 6 antifascists who took part in attacking the meeting that was organised by the Movement Against Illegal Immigration (DPNI) on Pionerskaya square in St.Petersburg in September 2006.

23rd of February 2004 anti-militarists and antifascists of Izhevsk
were returning from a picket against war in Chechnya. In yard, not far
from the central square of Izhevsk, they were attacked by 20
Nazi-skinheads.

Shouting "Sieg Hail!" and "White power!", they surrounded two
demonstrators and beat up Oleg S. and Aleksander S. with
iron bars, both activists were hospitalized. Oleg was diagnosed with

In the evening of March 25 in St. Petersburg an illegal antifascist march has taken place. Over 150 people have taken part, despite extremely harsh weather conditions - the city was in the middle of snowstorm (which probably slowed down the police reaction).
